BACKGROUND

The client wanted to replace their existing compressor motor, however the delivery turn-around time and price from existing supplier could not be met

SCOPE

The client wanted to replace their existing compressor motor, however the Delivery turn-around time and price from existing supplier could not be met. Main concern was delivery time and interchangeability. Very specialised motor thus we had to comply 100% to the specifications. Special flange end shield. Special mounting. Special plate for cable entry. Special steel plate fan cover. Motor powered by 2 frequency invertors, thus we needed 12 leads and not 6 as per standard motors. Operation limits with 2 invertors: 23Hz up to 73Hz. Special frame size.

APPROACH

Zest WEG sent a team to site to measure up the existing motor as no data sheets or drawings were available which made our task very difficult. Accuracy on dimensions was crucial to make the WEG motor totally interchangeable.

CONCLUSION

This was a very challenging project due to no information being provided in the form of drawings and data sheets, thus we had to start from scratch. The Compressor is a vital part of the end user’s factory thus they could not allow for much down time, the installation of the motor had to be done quickly and with precision. Nothing about this motor was standard, which made the installation extremely unique. In the end the customer was beyond pleased with the outcome of the project.
